Last year around this time, I was accepted into Bryant’s Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the premiere National Leadership Honor Society nationwide. I, along with a handful of other juniors and seniors, were later officially inducted at the end of the spring semester, and just before we all left Bryant for the summer, I was lucky enough to be elected President of the Circle for this coming academic year. This is a very exciting opportunity for me, and now that I have a few months as President under my belt, we are just finishing up our busiest time of the ODK year: the new member induction process!
Because of the national prestige of the organization, it is naturally a long and in-depth process in order to be offered membership. On top of this, many students are interested because of the networking opportunities and the recognition the honor society awards to top students. Candidates must be in the top 35% of their respective class, be nominated by an existing member of ODK, and then submit an application. Once all of the applications have been received, existing ODK members then select the top 20 junior and the top 10 senior candidates to offer membership into the national honor society.
Omicron Delta Kappa is a great opportunity to distinguish Bryant’s great student leaders, and also provides for those leaders to have an impact on the University. It is mutually beneficial in that the organization runs community service events, headlined in years past by a Clothing Drive, throughout the campus, and those within the organization gain networking avenues, a “top of the resume” type of recognition, and yet another way to immerse themselves into the Bryant experience.
We just finished the new member induction process, and will be pinning 35 new student members into Bryant’s Circle of ODK this coming Friday. These new candidates are very excited to join the group and we are lucky to have them representing the Society on our campus.
If you attend Bryant next fall, look out for Omicron Delta Kappa holding different community service events and inducting new members. Or, keep an eye out for the Circle even if you end up at another University. It is a great way as top upperclassmen to distinguish yourself as a leader and benefit those around you.
